UWACS PERFORM REQUIEM –
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart & Antonio Rosetti
(Australian Premiere)
Over one hundred voices from the UWA Choral Society and a group of prominent West Australian soloists will weave through the extraordinary beauty of Mozart and Rosetti’s Requiems in two special Perth and Bunbury performances. Mozart’s hauntingly beautiful, unfinished Requiem has always been the object of legend – though left unfinished at the time of his death this iconic work has become a favourite of audiences and performers alike.
In this Australian premiere, Rosetti’s own Requiem makes a fitting companion piece to Mozart’s final transcendent work. An engaging, celebratory piece, it is a touching memento of Mozart’s death, and an introduction to Rosetti as a contemporary of Mozart. Rosetti’s Requiem was performed in 1791 at a memorial service in Prague for Mozart on the arrival of news of his death. Rosetti himself died just 6 months later.
Conducted by Christopher van Tuinen and featuring soloists Katja Webb, Kristin Bowtell, Courtney Pitman and Perry Joyce, this concert is not to be missed.
