UWACS – Stabat Mater

The UWA Choral Society, together with four prominent guest soloists and a full orchestra conducted by Christopher van Tuinen, perform Dvorak’s haunting oratorio, Stabat Mater. Written in 1877, this deeply moving piece is Dvorak’s first work on a religious theme and is based on the 13th century Latin poem that describes Mary’s heartache standing before the Cross. A grief-stricken Dvorak wrote his Stabat Mater after suffering the loss of three of his children in rapid and tragic succession.
