Spirit of the Streets

The Spirit of the Streets Choir (Inc) commenced in Perth, Western Australia in 2007,
formerly as the Big Issue Choir, with the leadership of Bernard and Eleanor Carney. It
provides an environment where people from all walks of life and all social backgrounds can
come together in song and friendship. SOS, with their accomplished Choir Director Bernard
Carney, welcomes everyone as active members of a performing choir in a safe, welcoming and
non-judgemental environment.
Rehearsals are held each Tuesday 1.00 – 3.30pm at Mounty Church, 98 Hobart Street, Mt
Hawthorn. There is plenty of parking nearby or otherwise it is very accessible by public
transport: bus 990 from Perth busport Zone B to Scarborough Beach Road Stop Number 11447,
2 minutes’ walk from the church. No previous singing experience is required, no audition is
conducted, just a desire to sing, make friends and have fun. The Choir also performs a variety of
gigs and concerts during the year.

There are no subscriptions levied against the Members.

The Choir is run by a small but dedicated band of volunteers who give their time and expertise
freely and they support the Music Director, Bernard Carney in his work with the Choir.
